I arranged these images to look the best that they can by thinking about balance and what to include in the photo to make it pop. I used string lights to enhance the lighting and give it a more interesting feel. Some challenges I went through to take these photos is telling the subject how she should pose and position herself, I overcame this by being more free and seeing where it takes the photos and I think they turned out well. I also struggled to find a background that wan't distracting/ went well with the photographs. I think the window was good for the background because it draws attention to the subject and doesn't distract you. (portrait of my sister Claire)
I arranged the first image by testing what backgrounds went well with the photo, when taking the photo I made sure to put the camera at an angle that centers her eyes in the photo. the second one didn't have much planning, but I kept the camera at a good angle that is appealing. One challenge I had while taking these was finding the right background (similar to the first pair of portraits). It was hard for me to find good lighting because it was night and I couldn't use natural lighting, but I found ways to replicate it. (portrait of my mom)
This is my brother Jack, a short story about him is when he was around 12, he got lost in a subway. We were in New York city and the subway was packed, strangers and the strange smells lingered. When we reached our destination and started to push our ways out of the crowd, Jack got lost in the unfamiliar faces. Before we knew it the subway was racing away as Jack's terrified eyes darted out the window. In the end we found him, but the black and white photo reminded me of that time, because he looks lost. I feel like it embodies how he felt in that incident. All of my siblings are all really important people in my life, they're just always there to talk to and laugh with. My brother is fun to be around, even when he annoys me. He's kind and does nice things for me.
These photos didn't take much planning if i'm being honest, but I made sure to keep them focused on the subject and keep them interesting to the eye. In the fist one, I made it look balanced by centering his face so you can see the details, and the background leads your eyes to the subject because of the lines. I didn't have too many challenges with taking these photos, but it was hard for me to get five different photos that were all interesting and different. But I overcame it by focusing more on the subject. It was also a struggle to find good lighting, because these were also taken at night.
These photos were taken with natural lighting from the windows, which gave it a brighter feel. I set up the photos by having the subject pose in front of this background, the lines bring attention to her face. A challenge I had while taking these was over exposure in some parts of the photos, which mostly corrected while editing. Another obstacle was that a lot of the photos were similar because they were taken in a short period of time. I found two that I think are interesting to the eye in different ways. (portrait of my friend, Nicole)
For the second photo, didn't really set it up or plan it, she was just already there and I thought the lighting looked really nice and it looked like a cute photo. I put my phone almost level to the floor to get a good angle, and the shadows casted, and lighting worked well together. For the first photo I made sure the angle was straight on and focused on the subject. A challenge I had was getting her to stay still while I was taking the first one, but I think it turned out well because it's natural and captures her well. I tried hard to compose them in a way that keeps you focused on the subject and details. (portrait of my dog Ginger)
